All dogs adopted through the Prairieland Animal Welfare Center must be spayed or neutered before they can be adopted. The adoption fee for a dog varies from $80.00 to $100.00, depending on the size and breed of the dog and how long it has been at the Shelter. The adoption fee includes having the dog either spayed or neutered, updating of vaccinations. All adoptions must include a promise that if the new owner cannot continue to give this pet a home in the future, the animal will be returned to the PAWC so the animal can be offered for adoption to another individual or family. If the adopter resides in the City of Galesburg, an additional fee is due for City of Galesburg tags. if the adopter is from Knox County, including Galesburg, there is an additional fee for Knox County tags. These tags are paid for and received at the Knox County Jail and the City Clerks Office.
